Description

For a Multi-family project in central Seattle, the design team  was tasked with creating an iconic and interactive lobby feature. We conceived of a ceiling with a texture of pure soft light that shifts and changes based on algorithms, external data, or even the passage of residents through the space. 

The mock up is a framework with multiple rip-stop fabric ‘flags’ suspended underneath an led matrix. The LEDs are controlled using a Raspberry Pi and custom Python script. The script allows for organically random color changes, as well as playing gifs and streaming video from sites like Youtube, all controlled from a web interface.
